Lavinia was the daughter of Charles Rowe and Phoebe Holland. She was born in Thames at the height of the Gold Rush, before the family relocated to Auckland where she met and married Commercial Traveler Samuel ROWE.- On June 13. at the Church of the Epiphany, by the Rev. T. Farley, Samuel, only son of S. Rowe, Esq., Thames, to Lavinia Janet, eldest daughter of C. Rowe, Esq,, of H.M. Customs, Auckland.

George Rowe (jun) and his five younger siblings and his parents George and Jane(Feaver), emigrated as second class passengers on the "Hindostan" from London in Sept 1873 arriving NZ December 1873 and his parents settled there.
He then shot through to Oz and according to a relative now deceased, found his wife to be returned with the ship to NZ signed off and caught another ship one way to Oz where he joined the NSW police married his wife Elizabeth Grimmond (who emigrated from St Andrews Scotland) to Oz with relatives as a child many years earlier. They married at her parents place at Wahgunyah, and was posted to Wagga Wagga with the police.
He retired in about 1887 and moved to Pretty pine where he bought the pub, and where Charles Thomas was born.
The family of about 8 moved to Auckland in about 1895, and lived near his parents. In Newton (now the Motorway)
About five years before they emigrated from Dorset, George (jun) eldest brother Charles had emigrated to NZ, he seems to have also traveled to Australia but eventually married Phoebe Holland in Auckland in 1865. They settled in Hape St, Thames, leaving there in 1873 for Auckland where he was a Custom Clerk, when his family arrived.
